Position Summary:

Western Mechanical Electrical Millwright Services Ltd. in Barrie, Ontario is seeking a part-time driven, proactive, and ambitious individual who wants to learn and contribute to the ever-changing role of Health and Safety Support. The candidate shall show an interest in health & safety within the construction industry. They shall have the ability to prioritize tasks, follow through on projects, have attention to detail, and have strong interpersonal skills.

Western is proud to be a COR 2020 certified company; this role provides both administrative and general supporting tasks such as, engaging with employees and subcontractors one on one and in group settings, project- based tasks, as well as routine tasks for the Health and Safety department. Work will vary day to day, but will include tasks within the office and industrial shops.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Regularly ensuring online third party safety sites are up-to-date with the latest OHS statistics (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.).
  • Adding new employees into internal database, and assigning the proper roles and training.
  • Accurately updating current and new employee training records electronically.
  • Sit on the JHSC as a worker representative. Attend the meetings and preparation and distribution of the minutes.
  • Attend quarterly Senior Management Review Meetings for COR, and assist with minutes and presentation materials.
  • Administrative tasks related to training courses that run internally. Including, but not limited to; creating attendance sheets, preparing materials for instructors and participants, classroom preparation, and uploading certificates upon course completion.
  • Subcontractor Management; sending pre-qualification forms to companies via email, phone call follow-ups, tracking and electronically filing documentation provided, requesting site specific documents and training certificates prior to a subcontractor working on-site.
  • Will be required to work with numerous project managers to ensure subcontractors have all documentation required prior to starting onsite.
  • Responsible for ensuring post performance evaluation forms are completed by Western project managers, once subcontractors complete their scope of work.
  • Data entry, scanning, saving and uploading documents to pertinent files.
  • Providing assistance to employees with internal Health & Safety training platform.
  • Legislative inspections including, monthly fire extinguisher inspections, first aid kit inspections, naloxone kit inspections, and spill kit inspections. Additionally, weekly eyewash station inspections.
  • Various clerical duties that arise as needs within the department change.

In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a team-based collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building strong working relationships within the organization.


  • Effective verbal and written communication with field employees, project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors, is an integral part of the role.
  • Post-secondary education in business, administration, human resources, or health and safety is an asset.
  • 2 years work experience in an office setting is required.
  • Superior organization, time management and planning skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as function as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
  • Have a willingness to learn/build on previous experience.
  • Exceptional computer skills for a networked office, including Word, Excel and Outlook

Term, Hours of Work and Compensation:

  • This is a part-time position.
  • The hourly pay range is from $17.00 - $20.00. We expect to compensate the successful candidate at hourly rates consistent with market expectations and based on experience.
  • 22 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 8am – 2pm, with a half hour unpaid lunch.
  • The role is entitled to vacation pay and paid statutory holidays.
  • This is an in-person position.
